Ellie’s nine months old now and that’s just too much. She been outside of me longer now then she was inside of me. She’s amazing. Delightful! When Jesse and I sit on the floor with her, she bumbles back and forth over our laps, yapping about it along the way. She tries to put toys in our mouths, bounces around to music and huffs and puffs in excitement. She can stand up by herself, but only when she’s not paying attention. She gets up on her knees and bounces, bounces, bounces. She crawls so fast, sometimes her legs get ahead of her arms and she looses coordination. When the toys are all cleaned up, she can strew them around the living room in just a few hours. She loves to get into the toy basket and stick toy after toy in her mouth.

She still does not want to eat food, though she wants to taste all of it. After a spoonful of something, she’s done, thank you very much. I’d like to give up, but I know that’s not how it works. She mostly only likes to stick cheerios-types of cereal in her mouth and it’s so fun to watch her carefully get it to her mouth, get it in her mouth and then chew, chew, chew.

I love the way she smiles a huuuuge smile and gasps (huff! huff! huff!) in excitement. I love how her tongue sticks out when she tastes her food. I love the way her bottom squidges out on either side when she’s on her back and I’m changing her diaper.

I love how her head smells and the way her hair tickles my nose. I love the way her jawline has no definition, but starts as chub beneath her ear and chubs softly under her chin to her other ear. I love the way she raises her right eyebrow when interested and waves her arms up and down in excitement. I love her laugh. It’s the most beautiful sound!

I love how she clasps her arms around my breast when she eats. I love how she likes to bite my nose. I love how she holds onto the neckline of my shirt when I carry her on my hip and if she’s not ready to be put down, she holds onto me with arms, hands and legs, like a little chimpanzee.

I love how she looks at her Daddy and speeds toward him on hands and knees when he comes home. She reaches for him and settles into his arms, content. I love how she’s happiest when we’re both sitting on the floor with her. I love how she loves us and how she knows we love her.

Today I’m in Love

Standard

(Ellie’s 9 months post coming up shortly)
Oh! Love is in the air. The past few days have made my heart overflow. Happy times with family and a package of jam from Heidi (yay!) have made life literally sweet.

Jesse and I celebrated our anniversary last night, which meant eating the fanciest food we could cook at home. It was cheaper than if we had ordered takeout thai food. And incredibly delicious. We talked, laughed, and reminisced about all we’ve done together. It’s been a crazy 6 years. Portland to Japan to Spain to Portland to China to Berkeley. How lucky we are!

We spent the last weekend at my parents in dusty, blustery, blistering Redding. We just relaxed, hugging a lot. Grandma played with Ellie, Momm and Dad schlepped her around, showing her the garden, the dogs, the birds, etc.. Leif and Melissa, Josh, Olivia and Daniel all came down from Portland as well, so Ellie had cousins to play with and we all got to play together. Lois was there and Nick came back from Alaska on the last day. Old friends came over to visit and there was just a lot of friendly, family love.

Erin has planned a trip here in October, so I’ll get to see her soon enough. Al together, I have felt very warmly embraced by the comforts of love!
